Access to appropriate healthcare is one of the biggest issues for people living in the outer islands of Vanuatu. We are addressing this issue by partnering with like-minded organisations and volunteer medical professionals, providing both general and specialist clinics in these remote communities.

Things like eye tests, diabetes checks, wound care and basic health education are common needs throughout all the islands, but we also work alongside local health clinics to identify specific needs in each community. As a result of this type of needs assessment, we have been able to make a real and long-lasting impact for individuals with complex health needs.

We tend to spend 2-3 days in one community, before moving on. Each outreach lasts between 10 days and 2 weeks and usually includes more than one island.

How can you get involved?

There are several ways you can support our Medical Outreaches:

Volunteer
If you are a medical professional, we would love to have you onboard for one of our medical outreaches which run between May and November each year. For more information, email kerri@sailingwithpurpose.com

Donate
While all our medical teams are volunteers, there are tangible costs incurred both in the running of the vessel and in the supply of medical equipment and resources. These costs can vary greatly depending on the needs of specific communities. If you would like to contribute to our Medical Outreach Fund, click here for donation details.

Resources
There are some medical / healthcare supplies that are consistently required across all communities. Things like basic reading glasses, non-prescription pain relief, wound care dressings and antiseptic creams are always appreciated. If you would like to donate any of these resources, please email kerri@sailingwithpurpose.com
